i agree with you whole heartedly. the mind of the world is to gratify the flesh. however, as christians, we are to walk not after the flesh. in fact, the nature of this walk is to crucify the flesh. your are also right about the essence of obedience. it is impossible to please God when our primary concern is the flesh. i love the scripture which talks about serving to masters... you'll either love the one and hate the other, or you'll hate the one and love the other.
